As an engagement photographer in Northern Virginia, Manassas Battlefield is a cherished spot of mine for capturing couples in love in Northern Virginia. The expansive open fields of the park offer an ideal backdrop for playful outdoor sessions, resonating with those who cherish the great outdoors. This couple took the western theme and elevated as their own with white cowboy boots for her and a cowboy hat for him.
Leading up to Halle and Will’s engagement session was fun! After discussing the vibes of the shoot, I had every detail sorted, from picking the perfect location to envisioning those shots that would truly capture their unique love story. I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement as I imagined the laughter and sweet moments we were about to create against the open fields of Manassas Battlefield. Leading up to the shoot, we took to Pinterest for outfit inspiration and the overall vibes. I knew Halle and Will would be up for anything and so I was fully inspired and ready to get creative with them. It was going to be an adventure filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of magic!

As a photographer, I witness the captivating evolution of Manassas Battlefield Park from May to November. In May, you can expect lush greenery and vibrant wildflowers, providing a stunning backdrop for outdoor sessions. As summer progresses, I watch the landscape thrive, capturing the peak of foliage and the vibrant life within the fields. By September, hints of autumn emerge, painting the trees in warm hues that add depth and richness to my photographs. Finally, in November, I’m treated to a spectacle of fiery colors as the leaves turn, creating a breathtaking tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. Each season presents new opportunities for creativity and inspiration, allowing me to showcase the park’s ever-changing beauty through my lens.
The timing for sending out save the dates can vary depending on your wedding date and personal preferences. Generally, it’s a good idea to send them out about 6 to 8 months before your wedding date. This gives your guests enough time to mark their calendars and make any necessary arrangements. If you’re planning a destination wedding, you might want to send them out even earlier (up to a year in advance). Ultimately, the goal is to give your guests ample notice so they can plan ahead and prioritize securing time off of work and other travel arrangements.
It wouldn’t be a western theme without some “old timey” photos. Halle and Will fully embraced their playful side throughout their session. They were down to try any of my prompts I threw their way and never stopped laughing. Needless to say, we all had a blast and I especially love these old-timey photos. One thing I really love about being a photographer is getting to lean in and be creative with my couples. Once all of the “safe shots” are done, let’s play! While the sepia toned editing is definitely out of my norm, I do think it was *chef’s kiss* for these.
